„Glendon“...
...is a coil shape assembly, produced by Schmidt+Clemens Brasil Ltda., with Centricast Tubes welded by the TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding process. High Heat resistance alloys are used to cast those tubes in a process known as Centricast Spun, those alloys may be: G314Fu1 (25%Cr-20%Ni) and G4852 (25%Cr-35%Ni), the outside diameter usually is 166mm with thickness range from 6,5mm till 9,0mm.
The Glendon’s purpose is heat the air collected from the environment at room temperature, which flow into its internal surface until temperatures that range from 680°C till 730°C, this heated air, goes into the Blast Furnace where will promote the Vegetable Coal combustion and the Iron Ore that will suffer reductions reactions, due to the carbon released from the coal, producing Pig Iron that will be casted in briquettes or be conduced to the steel mills.
This system is widely used in Brasil to produce Pig Iron in Blast Furnaces with capacities until 600 tons per day, for bigger Equipments other systems are applied.
